RE: Anyone here ever blown a strut?

The strut is the front one right and the back is the rear sway bar? I'm just now getting into all of that because i'm buying the strut bar from a friend of mine haha. When I read this I wondered if I should even put it on my car lmao. Glad you figured out the problem though!

I've got the same noise, only my center nut is torqued to specs as are the 3 strut plate nuts. I'm going to have to disassemble and see whats up

RE: Anyone here ever blown a strut?

Aloha Guys,
It is a common thing for the main nut to back off holding the strut in. Read about it on another auto forums FAQ's. The rubber bushings compress and change the original torque from the factory. I checked mine last month and they were loose. Gotta keep an eye on it. Not that this is the problem in this case but, a good thing to monitor especially if you have installed strut bars.

The Big Kahuna has Spoken,

(by the way...I have never blown a strut...that is just sik...lol)

RE: Anyone here ever blown a strut?

I don't know how, but somehow I inadvertantly rotated the top plate 90 degrees on this one when I installed these. I didn't have any noise from the front end after reinstalling until last night all of a sudden the spring is creaking like a mofo. I'm gonna have to pull the thing apart again today and see whats up.

Holy sheet Patrick. Never seen one together that far off. Hope everything is fine once you get it rotated back around. It friggin jumped right outta the spring perch.

RE: Anyone here ever blown a strut?

It's all been rotated and put back together...weird thing is, that when I put these struts in, I had no problems whatsoever. I could compress them enough by hand to get the strut place right into the spindle. However...I fought this one for like an hour before I could get it in place. I'm starting to wonder if the strut didn't get damaged somehow. The spring creaking is whats bugging me the most. Oh well, I got a brake job to do for someone this morning and someone else bring a car by to check out then I can the front end apart....again.

RE: Anyone here ever blown a strut?

Put a small piece of rubber where the spring sits. That would prevent it from twisting, unless you go airborne.

RE: Anyone here ever blown a strut?

I pulled it apart, everything looks fine, cept the bottom of the spring has it's coating rubbed off it, I cut a thin strip of rubber for the spring to set on....then I read David's reply...LOL
