I'd like to connect an aux cable to my stock Pioneer head unit (1 disc, not the 6 disc changer model). Since I don't see an 1/8" aux port on the outside anywhere, what cable do I need to buy to connect to the back of my head unit to connect my MP3 player (which is not an iPod)?
There's an aux port and an ipod port in your center console, just in front of your e-brake. I don't know if your car came with a cord (cause mine did, but I bought it used) but it should link up right to your mp3 player.
I'm not sure if the 05 has the hookup that the 06 has in the center console. If you don't have that plug, then your best bet is to go with a FM transmitter that will plug into any mp3 player and send it over the air waves to your car radio. You would then tune into a certain channel like 88.9 and receive your music that way.
I just ran out there and don't see any port. I lifted the ebrake and popped off that little panel there but there's no connectors there or anything.

phocis850, thanks. I'm actually using the FM Transmitter now but I experience so much static I'd like to be directly connected to my radio (plus, the FM Transmitter seems to drain my MP3 player's battery really fast).

Here's another option for you, but it's pretty costly.

If you have an FM Transmitter that doesn't have it's own power supply, then it will sound like C R A P! Best bet is to find one that sits in the 12v adapter under the radio.

Thanks. I actually saw this earlier today; it's beyond my technical prowess. Smile The local car stereo place will charge me $175 for parts and labor to install a cable for an MP3 player. I may end up going that route.

Thanks for everyone's input!

^ I honestly wouldn't go that route with the local stereo store.

If you look around the net, you will see people selling their 06 stereo's that HAVE the aux for around $60. Instead of forking out $175 for JUST the mp3 hookup, you could get a new headunit instead.
yup what phocis said try finding a 06 stereo check the classifieds here and on clubxb and maybe even craiglist they often pop up
OK, the 2004-2005, and early 2006 xBs did not have the input jacks or any of the wiring "built-in" like the 2006.5 did.

There was an optional upgrade head unit that came with it's own input jack/cable for the earlier models.

The early basic head units did NOT have connectors on the back set up for an AUX/iPod input.

The easiest wired way to set up an AUX input for the early basic head units on the earlier model cars is to find an adapter that connects to the head unit, provides cabling and input jacks, and actually "converts" the levels and impedances to match what is required by the radio. One such is the PIE TOY03-AUX. (Here's ONE place that has 'em: http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=548 )

Another way to go about it is to install a different head unit that natively supports an AUX input jack.

(In my '05 I installed an '06.5 head unit with a hand made cable arrangement to handle some of the extras the newer head unit offers.)

Here's a comparison of the wiring for the stock, entry-level head units in the 2004-early 2006 and the 2006.5...

The wiring from the 2006.5 head unit to the AUX/iPod jack cable is NOT available separately from Scion - it is part of the dash wiring harness. Sad

(There used to be a guy who hand made those cables, but he is no longer doing so - it became too hard to get the proper connectors.)

HTH
A) lol how ironic. I just threw up my factory HU on ebay two days ago! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...:IT&ih=016

B) I had no idea the 04-05 B's didn't come with that hook up! That's what I get for not being apart of a Scion club I guess. lol
I've never been a part of any Scion car club either (last car club I was in was Narrows Grand Touring in the mid '60s). Big Grin
I'm in Dropmob CC right now, which used to be a big lo-lo club, but we're turning it around into a minitruck plus club lol. Basically a bunch of minitrucks, sport bikes, and two Euro-style lo-los. I like my club alot, plus they're well respected and have been around since the early '90s. I talk to Scikotics Lexington on their forum, but don't really consider myself a member considering I haven't been to a meeting. Then I'm on the Music City Scion forum, but I don't think the prez really likes me, so I don't think I'm gonna bother. I talk to a few of them at the local Saturday night hangout spot though.

Sorry bout the threadjack! lol
