so i want to take of the rims for a lil to really get em clean. is it as simple as jack, remove with lug wrench, pull off, then reverse or is there something else i should no?
just like you said jack it up and then take off the lugs for the front wheels. but for the back you need to loosen the lugs first before you jack it up because the wheels will just spin if they are off the ground.
its a good idea to loosen, not remove, the lug nuts on all the tires prior to jacking the box up
cool thanks guys. quick respnses, good answers
we try to help anyway we can here at xbsite
/\ ya i really think is a nice site, good people, good answers, and no site problems!
I recently took a ton of pics to do a howto on changing a tire. I know it's a very basic thing, but people like Joe need to know the basics. I'll get that posted as soon as I get a chance.
Yes and make sure the lug nuts are on real tight after you finished cleaning!!
/\ yeah you dont want you wheel fall off while you are going down the road. lol
haha thats true it has happend to my dad before on an old bug..
don't put the lug nuts on too tight.
i torq mine to 90 foot pounds, thats a tad more then i should but i know its still way under what would do damage.
the reason you don't want to over torq a lug nut is because #1 you still want to be able to get it off if you are on the side of the road with no air tools #2 you dont want to snap a stud and #3 the number one cause of warped rotors is unevenly torqued lug nuts.
here are a few charts
