Well we just recently purchased the whole back hatch of the 1st gen. xB.
We cut it up and sent it to our factory in China. We are now in the process of developing a new TBL for the xB!

Actually, the brake flasher I found before was designed only for LED lights, but I just found another that will work with LED, regular or halogen bulbs. I'd only connect this to the third brake light, and leave the others normal. 3-4 flashes then on steady. It's the IBF4 here:

I like that idea with the flash. In Pittsburgh we have tunnels everywhere and trucks love riding up your ass in them. That might at least get them to back off a little.
One thing I do right now when I'm on the freeway and see a massive slowdown or stop ahead is immediately hit the emergency flashers and lightly ride the brakes and delay heavy braking if I can until I can see that the folks behind me are all awake and slowing down, THEN I really brake. The third light flasher would help get attention from those behind a lot, I think...I hope.
I do the flasher thing and then look for a way out, cool car or not I am not going to be in the middle of a sandwich.
In the tunnels I turn my underbody kit on to the local rock radio station that seams to help get the people behind me off of my ass while they watch the lights flash.
i first saw the flash-then-hold pattern on the brake lights in Germany, i really thought it was a great idea. i didnt honestly know that people in the state were privvy to this technology. so heres my question, is it legal?
It's legal but I really hate that flashing crap...those things just annoy the hell outta me. Especially in stop and go traffic.
Here's what I wish. People would realize that when they get behind the wheel they're taking on a huge responsibility and need to act accordingly. Put down the damn phone, quit putting on make-up, reading the paper, playing PSP (actually saw this) and drive your car. Put your seat back up and pay attention, you're not at home in a lazy boy and NO, you don't look cool...you look retarded. Cars come w/ blinkers and rear view mirrors for a reason...USE THEM! A turn signal doesn't clear a lane...you need to LOOK before you whip into the next lane. If someone is trying to merge into your lane, don't ignore them and run them off the road...show a little common courtesy...it's ok if someone gets a head of you. And the thing that probably drives me crazy the most....if you're in the fast lane and traffic is moving faster...GET THE EF OVER! You're not going to teach anyone a lesson...you're probably going to cause an accident.
Sorry for the TJ rant...these are just a few of my pet peeves about driving.
speeking of emergency flashers,
i had a 94 escort a # of years ago that i had to remove all the stearing stuff and the emergency flashers button was on top right behing the stearing wheel.
well i broke it off and didn't realize it untill i had everything back together.
so what i did is got 2 sets of strobes from Pep Boys.
one side of the strobe would flash faster then the other so i put a hole set on each side in the back threw the amber housing.
worked out real nice, very high visability.
