Every time I see pics like the ones that started this thread I get the urge to paint mine, because the pics look so good... Then I try to decide what color to paint the covers in in Vanilla's engine bay and realize that black and white IS the color scheme I've chosen for the entire car. Duh.
Oh, well, I still like it when others do it!

I use a low to medium pressure sprayer with mild detergent and a a sprayable no-spot wax. Engine compartment gets cleaned every other car wash. (Vanilla was just over three years old when the pic was taken.)

paint it white and the letters and logo black. Then do the same with some filler caps and intake cover and fuse cover
