This morning stall.. - EdwardJTurkowII - 01-26-2010 09:34 AM On my way to class this morning, at a red light, turned green, gave it gas, got up to about 3rd gear then a plume of white smoke poured out of the tail pipe and my car stalled. Pulled it into a parking lot just rolling in stall and let it sit for a couple, tried restarting it and more white smoke came out follow by a really low idle(like it wasn't getting gas) and stalled again. I'm in class now so I haven't called a tow yet and arrange to drop it off at a care center. Any ideas what it might be before I get it in? I'm thinking a gasket leak or coolant going somewhere it shouldn't. Maybe oil. Didn't notice anything leaking though when I checked... then again I wasn't too thorough as I was rushing to be picked up and taken to class... RE: This morning stall.. - Peej - 01-26-2010 09:55 AM With knowing nothing more than that, I'd say you blew a headgasket. RE: This morning stall.. - EdwardJTurkowII - 01-26-2010 10:57 AM Would a check engine light come on from a head gasket because it didn't! I DID have coolant leaking problems last summer but fixed it with new hoses. It's possible the new hoses were too strong for the pressure and something else popped but I won't know till this afternoon. It's in the garage now being looked at! Nothing better than worrying about a car while in class! BLAH! RE: This morning stall.. - Peej - 01-26-2010 12:17 PM You should have got one if you had it running any length of time after restarting it RE: This morning stall.. - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 01-26-2010 12:35 PM white smoke is coolant, im sure of that, it also smells sweet. could be: head gasket cracked head warped head when you had coolant issues last summer did you overheat it at all. overheating can cause the head to warp and the gasket to fail RE: This morning stall.. - EdwardJTurkowII - 01-26-2010 01:04 PM Good news and bad news, good news: It's not the head gasket cause they checked all pressure in the entire system, bad news is I'm going to tear a new ass to the asshole that sold me the (what he told me fit a scion xb) Brisk Silver Brisk Silver Racing spark plugs. Scion XA, XB, and TC DR12YS DR14YS DR15YS straight from Perrin Performance website. It's going to cost $299 plus tax to alleviate the problem in whole and replace the spark plugs which are both neither the correct gap or plug in itself. Iridium is really the only plug to use on these boxes! Why a white plume of smoke came out I have no idea! RE: This morning stall.. - timmiz_roxxxz - 01-26-2010 01:13 PM oh man you.., so then it was bad plugs... was it you that installed them or what...or I'm missing the issue here RE: This morning stall.. - EdwardJTurkowII - 01-26-2010 01:25 PM Yeah I installed them but everything went well and it's been running since July when I put them in. All of a sudden this morning the car kicked back, blew out some smoke and stalled out. They even showed me the gaps in the plugs in the garage and sure enough they were not the right size. I just contacted PerrinPerformance with questions for refund and they are refunding me the money, apologizing for the inconvenience. As for the difference of $299(for the fix) -$45(for the plugs I bought from PerrinPerformance) I have to dispute it with PerrinPerformance in hopes they cover that cost too. RE: This morning stall.. - timmiz_roxxxz - 01-26-2010 01:33 PM well the way I see it and I'm sure you do to... it was there plugs that cost the damage so they should reimburst you or something not to leave you hangin but then I'm thinking there gonna end up saying you should have had a pro. install them... jus to know are these plugs one prong, two prong, four prongs maybe pictures would help...this is why I stick with ngk plugs and even though there pre-gaped I make sure cause mistakes happen alot RE: This morning stall.. - EdwardJTurkowII - 01-26-2010 04:21 PM Well it ended up being the plugs, some other thing, they cleaned the system too and there was a build up of liquid some how in the mass air inflow causing the white smoke to come out cause water was burning off too... that being said I drove it back home and not only is the problem solved but the sluggishness id did have is no longer there, it's breathing like a kid with asthma sucking on his inhaler, lol RE: This morning stall.. - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 01-26-2010 10:17 PM COOL! very glad to here it was something simple i check my air sencer every now and then, its always been clean so RE: This morning stall.. - timmiz_roxxxz - 01-27-2010 01:55 AM I need to clean mine and get a new air filter... I notice my idle bounces sometimes at lights or stops...I'm pretty sure it's that and maybe the plugs too since I got the cheap ngk's cause that's all autozone had at the moment... I've jus been lazy with the raining weather and all.... RE: This morning stall.. - EdwardJTurkowII - 01-27-2010 12:15 PM Yeah I'd definitely recommend it. It was scary thinking the entire day it might have been a blown head gasket at 69k. I'll definitely keep a better eye on everything like this cause it's the 3rd time now my car has sucked in water where it shouldn't have. I'm looking at short ram systems now to replace my 4ft of CAI. At least a short ram won't bend and make a nice little U section for water to just sit and puddle up in. On a better note, while it was in the garage on the lift I got up under the car while I was helping them troubleshoot and saw my exhaust and its entirety. Not only was I already shopping around for a cat-back system, but now I'm replacing the Cat itself cause it's rusted to shit(not leaking yet) and my headers just got here:-). RE: This morning stall.. - timmiz_roxxxz - 01-27-2010 02:17 PM yeah I pulled out that bend in cai I jus put the filter at th end of first pipe of the cai you know right next to the engine.. I think short rams respond better plus they sound pretty dope |
