PIMP!
i wouldn't pay $700 ether
ill get me a set one day

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 02-05-2010 06:47 PM

do a DIY (with lots of pics) for us and show us how easy the install is, most of us don't speak or read Japanese ether, and let us know about the sound quality.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-06-2010 11:01 AM

It IS convenient to translate!

I'd like to see these in person just to see how they're built and what the parts are on it. I bet I could fabricate a pair for at least half the price. Unless the parts themselves cost a lot. The clear plexiglas would be the most expensive of that.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - timmiz_roxxxz - 02-06-2010 09:36 PM

lol.... I was thinkin the same thing befor I bought these.... jus get sum plexi glass, LEDs strips and put it all together... and try to make sumthing similar

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 02-06-2010 10:21 PM

same here, but the real ones are pimp

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-07-2010 06:18 PM

does anyone know what that power converter is on the bottom of these speakers?

i know the UV lights are running off it too but I was wondering if that was a specific power supply for this setup or if there was a product out there like that to buy

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 02-07-2010 07:53 PM

i think its a 150 watt amp or some type of amp i might be wrong about the watt

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - lowNsquare - 02-07-2010 10:11 PM

damn i soo want a pair of them never really new where to get them

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - timmiz_roxxxz - 02-07-2010 10:23 PM

right now got no clue on power or anything I jus seen the deal and jumped on it.... I'll check latervor tomarrow when I'm not so lazy

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 02-07-2010 10:40 PM

keep us posted

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-08-2010 08:10 AM

Just from studying the pictures of the speakers on other sites I've figured this out so far.
The longest of either side of the plexi is 343 x 435mm
each has a 23mm soft dome tweeter
160mm woofer/driver
Normal music power outage is 45W, Maximum is 150W
4Ohm impedance and a 89dB/W(1M) sensitivity(which is basically PERFECTLY mad for our car)
Frequency response of 30~30,000Hz
and is powered by a DC12V

So far I've ordered the Plexiglas, which is half inch
And for the speakers I've got coming
PIONEER TS-C1653
6.5" 2-Way Rear Deck Mount Speaker with 150 Watts Maximum Power
50 Watts Nominal Power(45 more than the Carrozzeria's
2 Swivel Mount Separate 120 Watts Tweeters w/ splitters
40W Nominal Power
7/8 " Dome
Impedence 4 ohm(exact same)
Sensitivity 90 db/w(1dB higher)
Frequency Response 30-32,000Hz(Max 2KHz more)

The speakers are 1 package but each side L/R comes with its own amp/power supply kind of like the ones on the Carrozzeria's, but a little bigger.
As for lights I was just thinking 4" cathodes or maybe led strips. The ones on those speakers are UV, and everything's painted white/with special wire casings to make it glow, but I was thinking for my car I'd just put yellow lights on them to go with the solar yellow box.

Lastly I'll have to either customize 4 mounting brackets for each or just buy something but they're not too big. It's just S-shaped metal.

There's still some unknowns for powering up the lights and a couple of the pieces on the originals but I think I might have it down now.

When I get all of the materials in I'll start construction and do a DIY post and eventually a video for a sound test. So far everything's looking to come to about $150(depending on if I go cathode or led, and what style I do)

But that's a lot better than $780 with shipping or $1000 all together like I've seen so far on ebay!

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - Peej - 02-08-2010 11:29 AM

How do those mount to the windows?

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-08-2010 12:37 PM

If you see the outer most left and right and at the very top and bottom you see 2 holes. The brackets are 1/4 or 1/8inch steel flanges shaped like an S. The holes on the Plexiglas connect to the brackets, then the brackets run along the c-pillars and kind of clip between them and the window.

Here's 2 pictures to better show the holes.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - lowNsquare - 02-08-2010 01:30 PM

damnit i want them, ok whos gonna try and make them?

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-08-2010 06:14 PM

I've already ordered the parts to try and fabricate my own set!

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - lowNsquare - 02-08-2010 07:19 PM

let me know how it turns out

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 02-08-2010 09:27 PM

me too, i'd take a set as long as you can make it look like the real thing
but don't think you will be getting $700 from me

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-08-2010 09:37 PM

Def not! If I can, I'll keep'em under $200,

I feel the same way about spending that much on those as well...

If I can get them to come out then I'll make a couple extra and send'em out but have you guys test them first before I charge you.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 02-08-2010 10:21 PM

id be more than happy with that

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - Peej - 02-09-2010 07:18 AM

Sweet! I'm keeping an eye on this one.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-09-2010 10:30 AM

Did a little more homework...

With the help of a friend who's very knowledgeable with automotive speakers(he took a class back in highshcool) I was able to put a name to that box thing that the speakers and light plug into.

SWARTZ original guess of an amp was half correct. It's a combination amp and 4-Type clip which gets converted to just plug into the stereo(lights and speakers get powered this way) And the clear wiring that goes up to the tweeter, there's a fuse in that part. We're currently looking into getting our hands on these amp converter clips, if not we can use a standard mini amp and mod it to accept lights, though I'm not so much worried about the lighting as I am the speaker setup.

The speakers themselves are nice shallow speakers, the whole width of the entire assembly is only 55mm, or 2.1653543307inch
(just over 2 1/8)inch for you non-Japanese(Metric) guys, haha.

The reason these sets are so costly was because of the resonance protection that Pioneer JDM put into them. They're SPECIFICALLY manufactured to go inside our '04-07boxes and create the best sound possible. That and the tweeters themselves are over $400 for the set(don't worry I'm not using the original parts to recreate these, though I am sticking with pioneer) That and the speakers I found have the same, if not a little higher specs.

The 6 1/2 is a Driver speakers(mini subwoofer basically)

ThumbupThumbup:thumbup:man Edward should soOOO do a DIY...and under 200$ I'd buyem jus for the deal...and I should of mention in the beginng that I paid $477 and sum change for the speakers which I think is a steal but if Edward keeps around 2 or even for 3 that's still a great deal for havin a bad @ss custom made speaker setup that others are over $700.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - lowNsquare - 02-09-2010 06:28 PM

what would you even type in to search for those things

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-09-2010 06:56 PM

I knew some of the component names but I just asked my one friend who's the car audio expert and he knew just by looking at them. Funny thing is we searched Pioneer high and low and NOTHING came up under Scion or Carrozzeria. These are true JDM relics. The specs I found while researching them, I even found out approximately how big the plexi is. Only thing I'm going to really 'find' are those mounts for it. Then figure something out for the edging/molding and then I'll be golden!

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - timmiz_roxxxz - 02-09-2010 11:26 PM

I wish I had a scanner but as soon as I get home I'll try best I could to post pics of the manuel and the four mounts to the speakers I didn't get the two mounts that mount to the front of speakers to the rear seatbelts bolts...

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 02-09-2010 11:28 PM

So I've put about 30hours into searching, along with a few others helping and I stumbled upon a masterpiece... yes that's right, the MANUAL, the S.MANUAL TS-DRC1BB to be exact. Manufacturer Part Number: SMD01-803B | SKU: 6935392. But it's $60+ with shipping...

Also, in my searching I've found these as well...

As you know, this is for our xB

this is for the tC

and for the xA

Hidden in the depths of the internet. I couldn't find prices or specs on these. All of the sites are in plaintext Japanese or something else, european western or even Kambodia I've found... They're a pain in the a** to translate.
Oh, one more extra as well...

These I believe are for OUR xB's but I haven't found them yet sitting in one. They replace our tweeters and add 2 speakers to the mix... Also no price on those...

This Pioneer Carrozzeria is killing me... Waiting on the resources to start building.. I'm enjoying this challenge!

I've seen the rear seatbelt bolts too... they were used on top of the clips for extra support, and people complained about the speakers falling out at sharp turns.

To be honest, I don't know who's taking corners like that in these cars. Idiots power sliding on trays nonetheless... lol

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - lowNsquare - 02-10-2010 12:22 AM

thats awesome

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - timmiz_roxxxz - 02-10-2010 01:01 AM

and here are the mounts the small ones are top and bottom. the large ones are for the side and the speakers bolt to them with small screws and nuts... the mounts use double sided tape. as for them sliding out they musta been drivin hella fast for that to happen

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 03-04-2010 11:42 AM

yes, we need updates please

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 03-04-2010 02:35 PM

I've got the materials plus ordered speakers now. I went to a local place nearby and they helped me out with the parting and they were able to help significantly. They have heard of the speakers but haven't seen then before so collectively put their heads together to get the best, most accurate parts they could for the build. I'm taking out my C Pillars tomorrow just to do a rough trace of my dimensions, even though I know the lengths of the sides. It'll be easier cutting the curves with a pattern down. I have new blades for plexi-cutting; similar to a drilled-slotted rotor, the blades allow air through them so the plexi doesn't build up and turn into liquid hot magma. Once the speakers come in I'll start taking picture of everything then start the cutting/mounting of everything(with pics included) Sorry its taking so long, I wanted to get the parts and make sure everything was kosher before starting... I want to try and knock these out of the park and get as accurate as I can with the first set.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - lowNsquare - 04-01-2010 07:17 PM

hows the progress coming along?

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 04-01-2010 09:58 PM

Totally sucks, I've cracked 3 pieces of plex so far trying to cut and or drill into it. The thickness of it is killing me!

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - Peej - 04-02-2010 05:58 AM

How are you drilling it?

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 04-02-2010 07:07 AM

you have to go slow with a high speed drill.
don't go slow enough to burn it also might try using a little bit of water to keep it cool

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 04-04-2010 07:43 PM

That's why I've been doing. I was going slow with a 35000 rpm drill, too slow and it built up and started melting from friction. When I went too fast on it it chipped and cracked. I did get 1 of the panels cut and drilled properly but then installed the speakers I cracked it drilling the holes for the speaker mount. I'll be able do more work this coming week cause I have spring break and no work to do so I'll see what progress I can make on it. I'm also redoing my passenger side doors, sealing and painting them, making them look pretty but of course pics will come with everything....

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 04-05-2010 08:37 AM

ouch!
there has to be a better way

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - Peej - 04-05-2010 03:35 PM

There are differing opinions when it comes to drilling plexi. They make bits specifically for that task, but I've used regular ones and been ok.

This is from TAP Plastic's site:
When drilling a hole three times deeper than the diameter of the
drill, a lubricant, or coolant should be used, such as water. This
will help remove chips, dissipate heat, and improve the finish of
the hole. Rough, irregular, or fuzzy holes can lead to cracking and
breaking months after the piece has been completed.
The work piece should be held firmly, or, preferably, solidly clamped
to the worktable. It is best to backup the piece being drilled with
acrylic or plywood so the drill bit will continue on into solid material
as it penetrates the bottom surface. This will prevent chipping of
the bottom surface. Use a slow feed rate when starting the drilling
action to allow the bit to enter the material, and also slow the feed
rate as the bit exits the bottom surface to prevent chipping.
Holes which may be subject to high stress should be deburred
with a counter bore. Use a drill of larger diameter than the hole
and debur the rough edge on the exit side of the hole (side where
the drill came through the sheet).
Holes should be in as far from the edge of the plastic as possible
to prevent cracking.

Also, if you're using a hand drill that has a torque limit dial, turn it down to where if the bit grabs it will just hit the overrun clutch.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 04-06-2010 06:55 PM

wow
some very great tips

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - Peej - 04-07-2010 03:44 PM

Wow...this is even better. Go to this link and download the complete plexiglass fabrication manual (PDF)

How to cut plexiglass

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - Canxb - 04-13-2010 07:11 PM

try switching to a lexan instead of the plexiglass. lexan has less tendancy to crack when drilling and cutting than plexiglass.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - EdwardJTurkowII - 05-11-2010 09:26 PM

OK guys, I know this thread has been silent for a while... school is out at the end of this week and I have a couple more finals coming up, but here's a little teaser of things to come!

I know all of you will be very happy with this thread coming back alive.

OK so the piece I'm dealing with now I will get 3 panels out of it (it was a display of some sort so there's holes in it you can't really see in the pictures.
But everything I've tried thus far has been 3/8" thick (pretty messy stuff)

I've shattered 2 larger pieces cutting with a table and miter saw, cracked another using a jig saw, tried a coping saw but that only cut so far into the pieces (and I went through about 4 blades just cutting about 2' of it)

Finally I have my 35,000 RPM dremel using a series of Cut-off wheels and a Tungsten Carbide Cutter, that's right, I pulled out the Tungsten....

Dremel
[attachment=869]

The start of the cutting process (You can't see the black sharpie line that I'm using as a guide)
[attachment=870]

A complete pass
[attachment=871]

Flipped it and cut from the other side
[attachment=872]

End result HOLE!!!
[attachment=873]

Cut out piece successful but timely with the Dremel. I didn't take any more for the time being, but I spend about half an hour once it was cut just smoothing out some of the edges.
[attachment=874]

I made 3 passes with the cutting wheel and all went very well. Just made sure to cover up with a hoodie and sweatpants. My desk is now covered with plexi particles... they're very slick feeling if they stick to the bottom of your shoes.

With tomorrow off I will cut the other 2 panels out and then measuring and drill out the holes for the speakers, I'm waiting on my clear wire casing and my rubber U channels to come in which will border and clean up the edges (I ordered everything by the foot)

Of these 3 panels, I'm going to test out a smoked look and course sand one of them down with a rotary sander, make it opaque and see what it looks like.

Anyway, hope you all like it..
bare with me over the next couple weeks and I'm sure it will be a threat to remember... I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPPY the dremel was able to pull through and save my last ditch effor to successfully cut this nonsense!

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - SWARTZAUTOMAN - 05-11-2010 09:41 PM

just keep up the good work, sometimes it takes allot of trial & error to figure out how to get something done the way you want it to work.
don't make compromise, strive to achieve man, you can do it.

RE: eBay been good to me lately... sweeeet - Peej - 05-15-2010 07:08 AM

Take your time man....we're not going anywhere.
