RE: speaker replacements
I'd go with Elemental Designs. They make an excellent 6.5" component system replacement which should fit both the front and rear locations:

Dynamat is the easiest stuff to install, and will create the best sound possible. Also, it will dampen some road noise too.

6.5's will not fit in the stock rear location on a 1st gen....I've tried it. Not without cutting a crossmember.

RE: speaker replacements
I'll be upgrading next month to FOCAL all the way around. Not the cheapest but they sound great. Had them in my '05 box.

RE: speaker replacements
6.5" will fit in the front, and 5.25" in the rear, to my knowledge. 6.5" will fit in the rear with some, um... adjusting.
Elemental Designs makes an excellent 6.5" component system. They're a no-frills audio company that designs rock solid gear.

Where is the best place to buy Focal, MD Quart, Kicker? I am adding a amp with 125 wpc. I want it to be hidden and as clean as possible. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,
Ed

RE: speaker replacements
You should check this link out.
C pillar 6 x 9
I bypassed the rear speakers in my Gen 1 in favor of a pair of 6x9's in the hatch. Made a world of diffrence.

The only thing the guy should have done differently is gone to Best Buy or someplace that does audio installs and get bypass connectors for the speakers instead of cutting up the orginal harness.
