RE: Sub box almost done

Unfortunately it's still not finished. My father in law is supposed to be making me a new set of speaker rings for the 6x9's (3 weeks ago). I'm not putting anymore work into it until I get this speaker situation squared away. Hopefully I can get him motivated this weekend.

RE: Sub box almost done

It's done and sounds AWESOME! Your correct Carl, the 6x9's sit right behind the headrests.
The great thing about this is the bass sounds excellent from inside the car, but once you step outside..you can't hear it at all. You can hear the music fine, just not that annoying bass flutter that some people think is cool to hear from 100 yards away.
I bought a bunch of edead and turns out I don't need it. The only rattle is the license plate, and that is barely audible.
2 days after it was installed and before I got any pics, my wife wrecked her box and it's sitting at the body shop. I need to go pick it up so I can finish the lights on it. When I do, I'll get snap some pics.

RE: Sub box almost done

Let me tell you guys something, When I was much younger I had great hearing which came in great as a mechanic as it lets you pick out the faintest of peculiar sounds. Fast forward 30 years and I can't hear shit! All those years of working around loud equipment combined with my love for loud music has really done me in. I rarely bother going to a restaurant anymore unless it's just me and Tracy because I can't hear any conversations at the table, all I hear is just background mumbling. All I can hear out of my right ear is ringing...LOUD ringing. To the point that if i'm in a very quiet setting it drives me absolutely crazy. I've always got to have some noise in the background to kinda mask it.
My two most popular words these days are "HUH?" and "What?". My wife, bless her heart, I know is sick of having to repeat every thing she says 2 or 3 times and you can pretty much forget cell phones...I really struggle to understand what's being said.
With all this, it would seem that you would think hearing aids would be in order. I thought so too. What I didn't understand is their are different types of hearing loss, and what I have hearing aids won't help...oh and there is NO treatment for the ringing, I just have to live with it. I should say..there's one procedure, but it's success rate is extremely low and the chances are that you will be completely deaf in that ear AND still have the ringing.

I'm telling you younger people this because you need to understand how easy it is to lose something thats so vital to your life. I guess one thing I'm glad about is we didn't have the sound systems back in the 60's and 70's that are around today...i'd be stone ass deaf I'd imagine. Although hearing protection was available in most high decible jobs I've had, I usually neglected or just didn't wear it. It was nothing more that just stupidity on my part along with underestimating the natural aging process.

If your bass can be heard by 3 cars in front or back of you IT"S TOO LOUD!
If your bass can be heard in a house IT'S TOO LOUD
In most loud systems that I've experienced around here, the person is just looking for loud and don't give a shit about sound quality. Bass flutter absolutely drives me up a freakin' wall..but I hear that more than decent bass hitting.

I'm sorry to jack my own thread, but you know, this shit is important and you guys that are in your 20's and early 30's need to understand whats happened to me can happen to you or worse...and I'll tell you...IT FREAKIN' SUCKS!
So...be good to your ears, you'll appreciate it later in life.

Thread jack over......

It's not a thread jack when your talking about the same thing, BASS. I'm not as bad as you, but I'm close. At a table I see myself reading lips more and more. It's turning into a gift for me. Best of all, it actually helps me listen more. Maybe A D D kids should be subject to going to concerts and standing in front of the speakers for a year of their lives. Then maybe they will start listening better because they will NEED to pay attention Wink

What I was actually gonna tell you about is that my dad HAD the same issue. Come to find out, he went to his doctor because all he could hear was ringing out of his right ear, and very little out of his left. Anyway, they ended up pulling this HUGE GLOB of ear wax out of both ears. The ringing is gone, and it seems to have given him about 90% hearing. After living for over 10 years with this issue, he just thought he would live with it. Maybe you should look into that.

I wish he would have taken a pic of the GLOB because it would have been absolutely disgusting, and being a guy, I would like to see that Big Grin

RE: Sub box almost done

Yup...been there done that w/ the ear wax. For some reason I produce a lot of ear wax but unfortunately that didn't help.

LOL...i've gotten pretty adept at reading lips myself, but it's hard in the south when they keep wanting to throw extra syllabels in.

Damn...bummer on no pics of the blob...I'd love to see it too Smile
