takin off the rims

takin off the rims

so i want to take of the rims for a lil to really get em clean. is it as simple as jack, remove with lug wrench, pull off, then reverse or is there something else i should no?

just like you said jack it up and then take off the lugs for the front wheels. but for the back you need to loosen the lugs first before you jack it up because the wheels will just spin if they are off the ground.

its a good idea to loosen, not remove, the lug nuts on all the tires prior to jacking the box up

I recently took a ton of pics to do a howto on changing a tire. I know it's a very basic thing, but people like Joe need to know the basics. I'll get that posted as soon as I get a chance.

don't put the lug nuts on too tight.
i torq mine to 90 foot pounds, thats a tad more then i should but i know its still way under what would do damage.

the reason you don't want to over torq a lug nut is because #1 you still want to be able to get it off if you are on the side of the road with no air tools #2 you dont want to snap a stud and #3 the number one cause of warped rotors is unevenly torqued lug nuts.
