[split] Miles Per Gallon

RE: [split] Miles Per Gallon
Remember, though, that the speedo calibration from the factory is NOT correct, and that most xB speedos read 2-6 MPH too fast at freeway speed. In fact, the service manual even shows that it is designed that way, and is required by the spec to read too fast...

(Keep in mind that the speedometer and odometer are totally independent in their calibration and while both are off, correcting one will make the other farther off. This thread is on mileage (MPG) so the amount the speedo is off makes no difference. With my oversize tires, for example, the speedo in my xB is now right on with the timed mile, radar, and GPS, even though the odometer is about 6.1% off.)

RE: [split] Miles Per Gallon
*sigh*
That's why I only covered one tiny aspect of fuel mileage in my original post in this thread: Everything connects to everything else, and the only way to keep the discussion rational and understandable is to discuss it in small segments, and to limit the discussion to only that part.

Other segments should be discussed in other topics - but this is the internet, and since my first Usenet post, 03JUN1983, I have yet to see a thread stay purely on topic. Big Grin

That's one reason why I try to keep my posts limited to one topic, and try to just hit the high-points and not give back-up for every statement I make. My mistake is usually that I then respond to folks who ask for back-up or detail, and the folks who were satisfied with just the original short-form correct information get burned out on all the detail. Blink

(That's also why I usually just give up trying to explain things and quit answering.) Blushing

Well, you do a great job on informing people on information. You have a ton of knowledge in every area of the xb haha. I will no longer drive that fast, it just kinda happened haha. My car likes to go fast I guess lmao.

^ If you can stay within 5mph of the speed limit, your MPG's will go up significantly.

...unless you are in parts of Texas (or Montana, Vanilla likes romping along between 75 and, uh, 95 in Montana...) Ohmy

I will admit that I often like to run a bit over the limit, but I set my own personal limits as being within 10% of the posted limit. Sometimes I slip. Sad

RE: [split] Miles Per Gallon
I usually stay within the limit. The only time i've slipped is driving to miami...I was talking on the phone and my foot got heavy lmao.

I usually drive 65 on my way to school on the turnpike, which is usually like 70mph.

RE: [split] Miles Per Gallon
I went on a road trip during the summer and got 36mpg on 18" wheels. Was going 70 but if I dropped my speed down I probably could have eaked out another 1 or 2 mpg's.

^ If your on an auto, then you get better mileage on the highway. My highway RPM's are higher at 70mph than an auto.
