Toolmans box

We have a 2006.5 Shadow Mica box. I first got it because of wanting to have something economical and cool. The kids and I wanted to have something fun to do together so we started to come up with some ideas. I also have made some good friends over the years that help us with them.

It all started with the lights:

Then we moved onto the vent shades, window tint, and the graphic.

The kids and I enjoy working on the car together. The reason they call me Toolman is because I have a lot in common with Tim Taylor. I can mess up screwing in a light bulb. But I do have some great friends that help with our ideas. When it comes to cleaning my daughter and I have that down pat. My son does the set up, he figures out what toy where, what video to play that sort of thing.

The reason for the Cancer Sucks is that I lost my wife a couple of years ago. It is one of those things that kind of sticks with you so I figure call it like I see it.

We have some nice ideas this year for the box. Since I can't keep up with the Jones with all of the AV equipment, we are going in a different direction and are turning it into a tailgate/picnic car. I have been meeting with a cabinet maker to create a table that will fold out of the back of the car that will seat fifth. With Johnboy's help I have some parts coming in for under the hood. So I hope to have it ready for the shows coming up this month.

RE: Toolmans box

I know Toolman and see him at all the shows. I have to say it is a very nice ride and a lot of the voters do also. I cannot remember the last time we went to a show that he did not take a trophy home. Toolman, keep up the great work (but not too much, lol, I like to win too) and I'll see you soon.

RE: Toolmans box

I know the truth toolman, and I know your not a newb, just haven't posted much. But one thing I have noticed is that Cancer Sucks in your sig. Now I know the reasoning behind it, and am glad to see how well your doing, and what a loving father you are to your kids. I always tell people that nothing is more important than family, so love them the best you can.

Love how the car is coming along. I wouldn't mind getting a trophy for something, but I'm sure I'm not even close to getting one yet.

RE: Toolmans box

Everybody can win something, it is all in the details.

The very first show I ever did we won for best sound system. The funny thing is I am completly stock, and some of the cars there have spent thousands on there systems. It was because of a $90 mod. I have lights under my seats and in the door pockets that flash and change color to the music. I spent some time trying out different songs to try and get just the right sound. Then my daughter and I went nuts cleaning the car. At the show the judge told the crowd its not always who is loudest but who creates the best enviroment. Johnboy and some of our other Scion friends from Pittsburgh are great and very suportive of what I am doing.

The Scion family reaches far beyond South West Pennsylvania. I was doing a car show in Northern Virginia when the most imbarassing thing happened. After waiting for over three hours the judge finished with the car in front of mine, when he turned and was walking towards me the radio quit. I tried to start it up and the battery was dead. The judge told me to get it started and he would come back. Well the car in front of me did like a 90 point turn to get turned around and another xB owner pulls out some jumper cables to get me going. When they are done they wipe down everything they touched. I then went and got the judge. The thing I thought was cool was that the people who helped me I was competing against and it didn't matter.
