RE: What kind of Oil?
Royal Purple is the clear leader in the Synthetic market, but any synthetic oil for my box is too expensive. I have yet to see a clear advantage of a car driven with synthetic over standard oil.
you get to say 'hey, I run synthetic.'

RE: What kind of Oil?
I've run all sorts of oil in all sorts of cars (I've had 29), and Vanilla has been on Castrol Syntec since 1500 miles...

RE: What kind of Oil?
our little 1.5 is not a high peformance angine so it realy doesn't need anything better than a stage 3 Synthetic = Castrol Syntec or mobil 1
royal purple and amsol are stage 4, im not knoking you if you can get it cheep.
i use Synthetic (Mobil 1) because its less were on the engine, protects better, runs cooler and i go longer between oil changes.
ive been yelled at befor about the longer oil changes, but my oil never gets over 180 F, its not high compretion, forced induction, or a race car.
i just change my filter every 3k and the oil every 6k.
i use the toyota oil fiter from the TC, its a tad bigger so it hold a little more oil and has a larger filter serfice.
i also use 5w20 because thats what toyota is putting in all its new cars including the yaris that still has our same 1.5.

thats weird usually its the other way around. i know a lot of people that feel the filter is good for twice as long as the oil.
either way, i change em both at the same time.

RE: What kind of Oil?
i see your point, and i have done that some years ago on older cars.
but the more i thaught about it the more it didn't make sence.
the way i see it is the filter is cheep and it keeps the oil clean.
our little motor already has ALLOT of oil pressure and a dirty filter is just going to add to it. to me puting new clean oil threw a used dirty filter is kinda backwords.
its the oil you tring to keep clean.
now putting a good high quality oil thats a little used threw a new filter, that just makes a bit more sence in my book.
you should see my oil after 6k miles, its not bad at all, its still got a amber color to it.
im not tring to change anyones mind, you do what you think is right, im just explaining my thinking behind what i do.

RE: What kind of Oil?
thats a good argument. I used to change my filter and oil every 3k. Then i read the manual and Toyota says 5k is a-o-k!

I change mine every 3k also! The Arizona heat is not easy on oil...

So do i use the 5w-30 or the 10w-30? Which is going to be better for my engine in the long run? Im not going to be doing anything else to me engine except pulley, header, better intake and full-cat-back. Just let me know the way i should roll. Thanx

RE: What kind of Oil?
In some racing circles folks even modify the oil filter mounting areas on their non-Toyota engines to use Toyota filters. Toyota filters are pretty well respected.

RE: What kind of Oil?
yep thats why i stick with the toyota filter.
the TC filter fits on out 1.5, its a tad bit bigger filter(same price)
hold more oil and has a bigger filter serfice area.
just my 2 cents
