RE: wipers?

I use the stock hardware on my 2005 box and only replace the inserts when they get old, and will no longer wipe streak-free after being cleaned.

The inserts I use are NAPA with TeflonĀ® stripes along each side, which helps the very large wipers to make it across the windshield without juddering and with less load on the wiper motor and geartrain.

Here's what I use:

Cost is only about $4 per insert...

RE: wipers?

I'm still running the stock wipers at almost 50k miles. I'm gonna replace them soon, and use something with teflon as well.

RE: wipers?

I replaced mine w/ some Anco's a couple months ago and they SUCK ASS! The OEM's were good for the first year and a half and I think I'm going to get a set of refills from the dealer.

RE: wipers?

Just be cautious with the "Toyota" refills: There is a tendency for the metal stiffeners in them to walk out of the passenger side insert and a lot of boxes have had their pain scarred by them...

There have been several topics on this over at that other site. Smile

RE: wipers?

replaced mine w/ the rainX brand ones, but just because they were on sale. I'm not too sure I like them better than others because I haven't tried any different ones on the box yet.

hahah way to Go WalMart! or wait did you get those from Kragen. Sometimes the phrase "you get what you pay for" comes into play. I bought the $6 ones with the white fluffy marshmallow dood on them. Michelin! They are actually holding up pretty good too. I bought mine about the same time my lady bought hers and mine have lasted longer, hasnt streaked yet, and still giving a good wipe.

RE: wipers?

Every time mine start to wipe a bit streaky, I clean the wipers really well with detergent, water, and a terrycloth rag. So far that has fixed 'em right up - $4 NAPA Teflon inserts have been on the box since end of May, 2005 now - in the Seattle area [rain].

I've been buying Anco's for 30 years. At one time they were top of the line and all the OEM used. Their quality just doesn't seem to be what it once was. There doesn't seem to be much selection in this area of the country either....not for boxes anyway.

RE: wipers?

you know the life of the wipers also depend on the outside temp. If its hot and the box sits out in the sun the wipers tend to dry and crack, which decreases the life.

RE: wipers?

Well... we've had ONE 80 degree day so far this year. Smile (Right now it's in the mid 50s at mid day.)

Hot dry days and sunlight are very hard on wiper inserts, as is the build-up of miscellaneous crud on the edges. Some window cleaning chemicals also damage the rubber.

Even though wipers are used a lot more here in the Pacific Northwest on the wet side of the mountains, the milder sunlight and lighter smog and ozone problem does let the wipers last longer.
